There is no standard recruiting macro. I have used quite a few different ones myself, but here are some basics:
Making a macro
First, here is how to make your recruiting macro:
- Open your macro window by typing /m
- Choose an icon and name your macro. I use 'Recruit'
- Always preface the macro with /1 and a space. This means it will output to the local channel. For the oath and acceptance macros, preface them with /g so they will always appear in guild chat.
- I advise against using two-line macros, as they can annoy people, but if you simply cannot fit everything in one send just hit the spacebar to go to the next line. Remember to preface that line with /1 as well or this part will go into your current default channel.
- Check your macro! Do not use a macro with typos, missing puncuation, cyberspeak, etc. Have another Ranger check your macro before use. You can change /1 to /o to post it in our officer chat before use.
Details you may wish to add:
- Rangers is one of the oldest guilds on the server, founded in 2005.
- Rangers has a full 6-tab bank, something very,very few guilds have achieved.
- Always try to include the website (rangersofmyst.com)
- Begin your macro with the guild name. We don't need cutsey garbage to sell our guild. We are already the best, and don't need it.
- RP-based, or Light RP. The foundation and storyline of our guild is based in role-playing. It is not required, but definitely encouraged. Be sure new members are made aware of this during the interview if you do not include it in your macro.
- Specify that you are looking for Night Elves
My recruiting macro is as follows:
/1 [Rangers of the Myst] (Est.2005, 6 tab bank, RP-based) Is accepting new Elven members. Whisper me for your interview!

Ranger macro use
NEVER spam trade chat with recruiting. Not only does this annoy the hell out of people, it degrades the reputation of the Rangers.
Never use a macro twice in the same zone in a short period of time. You should wait at least a half hour, if not several hours or days before a repeat. Rangers does not need quantity, we need quality.
I suggest only recruiting in three zones: Teldrassil, Darnassus, and Darkshore. Dranei will come to us as alts or from observation. We are an elven guild, and should only be recruiting elves as new members. |
